Star Trek The Original Series: Complete Collection (Remastered) (20 Discs) Blu-Ray When Star Trek The Original Series first hit the screens in 1966 few would have thought that 50 years later it would be considered the greatest Sci-fi series ever. Spawning five spin off series, 13 movies, novels and a reboot. Gene Roddenberry’s original vision of this brill series was extensively revised before the first pilot “The Cage” was filmed. It wasn’t received too well by the NBC network executives who had selected the script. So they took the unusual step of commissioning a second pilot and recast some of the crew. Other familiar faces would join the show in the second season. Only lasting for three seasons Star Trek The Original Series still managed to make its mark in history. Helping to break down race barriers by having a black female communications officer and a Japanese helmsman. Both on the bridge and involved in important story lines. Captain Kirk even kisses Nyota Uhura in the first interracial kiss on US television. At the height of the cold war a Russian, Pavel Chekov was a main character on the bridge too. After 79 episodes Star Trek the Original Series was…

Hannibal Season One Review
TV / January 17, 2015

Hannibal – Season 1 [Blu-ray] [2013] Movies turned into series are often a bad idea. New actors, directors and the need to develop characters often ruin what was simply a good movie. So I held off watching Hannibal season one for a while not wanting to ruin my enjoyment of the movies. I only started to watch it when the first season was down to £10. Hannibal season one is without doubt a well written, brilliantly acted and wonderfully intense journey through investigations of what are; some really horrific murders. Will Graham (Hugh Dancy) is about to walk away from hunting serial killers however he is convinced by Jack Crawford (Lawrence Fishburne) to stay. He enlists the help of renowned psychiatrist Dr Hannibal Lecter (Mads Mikkelsen) to keep Will on a stable mental footing. Unfortunately for Will Graham his unique psychology peaks Hannibals darker interests and he begins to manipulate Wills very reality with artful deviance. Mads Mikkelsens performance as the infamous cannibal is chillingly good. Bringing Hannibal’s manipulative streak to the fore, hidden only by a facade of detached calmness. Hannibal kills with artful theatricality throughout the 13 episodes. He shows his passion for cooking throughout too as part…

Sherlock Season 1
TV / February 5, 2014

Sherlock Season 1 Although I liked the 1984 series where Jeremy Brett played the title role, when I heard about a new series being made and set in “contemporary” London I wasn’t actually looking forward to watching it, as stories rarely work out as good when you change the original setting. Eventually though I caught an episode and liked it, so here’s my review. Sherlock is a British TV series currently in its third season. It is a modern day adaption of the famous Sherlock Holmes detective stories, written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Benedict Cumberbatch plays “Sherlock Holmes” and Martin Freeman Stars as “Dr John Watson”. The season is 3 episodes long. “A Study in Pink” is the first episode which introduces Sherlock Holmes to Dr Watson, who is an Afghan war veteran looking for a place to stay. Sherlock just happens to have a spare room and the two hit it off from the start. Sherlock reveals that he is a consultant to the police and the two are soon investigating a series of deaths, that on face value look to be suicides. “The Blind Banker” Sees Holmes being hired by an old friend who wants him to…
