Star Wars: The Force Awakens [Blu-ray + Bonus Disc] [2015]  Star Wars The Force Awakens is the seventh Movie in the brill Star Wars series of movies. Having recently bought the rights to the saga Disney is banking a lot both financially and in terms of reputation upon its success. It’s fair to say that they have a lot to live up to as previous Star Wars movies didn’t just define the genre but set all the box office records it has to beat. Star Wars A New Hope was a ground breaking movie, it brought Science fiction to the large screen in a way most folk couldn’t even comprehend before. It was so ground breaking that even as it was being made many of the crew working on it didn’t think it was going to be a success. Luckily George Lucas held steady in his belief that he could make a sci-fi movie for 9 year olds and we now have seven brill movies. Before I continue I must warn you that plot spoilers will commence from here on in.   About 30 years or so after the Second Death Star was destroyed the First Order has risen from…

Star Trek The Original Series: Complete Collection (Remastered) (20 Discs) Blu-Ray When Star Trek The Original Series first hit the screens in 1966 few would have thought that 50 years later it would be considered the greatest Sci-fi series ever. Spawning five spin off series, 13 movies, novels and a reboot. Gene Roddenberry’s original vision of this brill series was extensively revised before the first pilot “The Cage” was filmed. It wasn’t received too well by the NBC network executives who had selected the script. So they took the unusual step of commissioning a second pilot and recast some of the crew. Other familiar faces would join the show in the second season. Only lasting for three seasons Star Trek The Original Series still managed to make its mark in history. Helping to break down race barriers by having a black female communications officer and a Japanese helmsman. Both on the bridge and involved in important story lines. Captain Kirk even kisses Nyota Uhura in the first interracial kiss on US television. At the height of the cold war a Russian, Pavel Chekov was a main character on the bridge too. Movies / December 8, 2015

Terminator 2 – Judgment Day (Skynet Edition) [1991] [Blu-ray] Terminator 2 is a brill sequel to the 1984 Terminator movie. It was released in 1991 to huge commercial and critical success, easily surpassing the first movie in box office takings. The plot has Skynet sending an advanced T-1000 “liquid metal” terminator back in time to kill John Connor. The boy is destined to become the leader of the human resistance. As before the resistance is able to send back a protector for John. This time though it’s the same class of terminator played by Arnold Schwarzenegger that killed Johns father. They narrowly escape from it after a lengthy chase. John decides to free Sarah Connor from the…

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain PS4 Review
Games / December 6, 2015

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain – Standard Edition (PS4) The Phantom Pain had a lot to live up to. It’s predecessor MGS IV was visually stunning and immersive. It’s one downside was that there was far more watching than playing. Having got my hands on the PS4 version I was pleasantly surprised to find out that The Phantom Pain was a sandbox game. Giving it the potential for days of free roaming game play. Following on from the prologue Ground Zero. Big Boss awakens in hospital after being in a coma for nine years. He soon finds himself in charge of a mercenary group called Diamond Dogs. So he begins to build his forces and track down whoever it was that attacked Militaires Sans Frontières in Ground Zero. Graphically the Phantom Pain is stunning. Kojima Productions seems to have squeezed every ounce of graphical power out of the latest Playstation. It delivers a world that makes you stop to take a look around. Days and nights come and go a bit too fast for my liking. However the changes in lighting as the sun goes down are realistic. You can move around on foot, in a vehicle or…
